Where to stay in Drumnadrochit

Stay on the village green if you come by bus or want to walk to dinner: Morlea B&B and the Loch Ness Drumnadrochit Hotel sit by the Drum Green stops. Stay in Lewiston, at the Loch Ness Inn or Loch Ness Bay Camping, if you want to walk to Urquhart Castle in about 25 to 30 minutes.

The best place to stay in Drumnadrochit depends on one question: will you walk or drive? If you arrive by bus or want to stroll to dinner, stay on the village green, where Morlea B&B and the Loch Ness Drumnadrochit Hotel face the Drum Green bus stops. If you want to walk to Urquhart Castle, stay in Lewiston, the southern end of the village, where the Loch Ness Inn is about 30 minutes from the castle on foot. Campervans and tents belong at Loch Ness Bay Camping.

The village is small, with about 1,200 people, but it stretches. From the green to the castle car park is about 3.7 km, a 48-minute walk, and most of that is beside the A82. So which end you sleep in changes your days more than which hotel you pick.

Which part of the village suits you

Drumnadrochit has two halves. The village green is the centre: the bus stops, Fiddler’s, the Ness Deli, the Loch Ness Experience and Nessieland are all within a few minutes’ walk. Lewiston is the southern part of the village, on the A82 towards the castle, with the Loch Ness Inn, the petrol station and the post office. Beyond the edges sit Clunebeg Lodge on its own estate and the campsite at Borlum Farm.

Hotels and B&Bs in Drumnadrochit

Loch Ness Inn and Bunk Inn (Lewiston)

The Loch Ness Inn is the one to beat if you want to walk to the castle. It has 11 bedrooms, a restaurant and the Brewery Bar, and next door the Bunk Inn has 9 rooms aimed at walkers, cyclists and families on the Great Glen Way. It is about 20 minutes on foot from the green and 30 from the castle car park. Parking is free and there is EV charging for guests. VisitScotland’s trade listing says it is open year-round, the only place in the village that states it. Stagecoach’s 17 stops opposite. Book on Booking.com or for the bunkhouse on Booking.com.

Loch Ness Drumnadrochit Hotel (village green)

The “Drum Hotel” trades from a modern extension beside the old 1882 hotel building, which now houses The Loch Ness Experience. Its manageress, Aldie Mackay, reported the April 1933 sighting that started the modern monster story. Today it is a Cobbs hotel with a cafe, bistro bar and lounge bar, about 150 m from the green, so you can walk to every pub and cafe in the village. Parking is free on site, and hotel guests may keep their cars in the Loch Ness Centre car park after it closes to visitors. The hotel does not publish its season. Book on the official site or Booking.com.

Loch Ness Lodge Hotel (beside Nessieland)

With fifty bedrooms, this is the largest hotel in the village. It sits in woodland beside Nessieland, under the same ownership, about 200 m from the green, and the building dates back to 1740. Rooms run from doubles and twins to family rooms and two suites, parking is free, and Visit Inverness Loch Ness lists it as pet friendly. It opens only in the summer and autumn months, so it is no use for a winter trip. Book on the official site or Booking.com.

Morlea Bed & Breakfast (village green)

Morlea is the bus traveller’s choice: it faces the green, the Great Glen Way passes the door, and the Citylink coaches stop in the middle of the village. There are three doubles and a twin, all en suite, with free parking behind the house. Its website says the castle is a 15 to 20 minute walk; OpenStreetMap’s walking route makes it about 48 minutes. The official site offered 5% off with the code BOOKDIRECT in October 2026. Book on the official site or Booking.com.

Glenkirk B&B (village)

A converted village church with a 4-star Scottish Tourist Board grading, about 450 m from the green on a quieter street off the A82. It has parking for three cars and a garage for motorbikes and bicycles, which makes it the pick for cyclists and bikers. No pets; breakfast runs 8 to 9am. In October 2026 its site quoted £510 for three nights’ B&B for two, with no dates attached, so ask for your own. It is not on Booking.com: book through the official site.

Clunebeg Lodge (edge of the village)

Clunebeg sits on a private estate by the River Coiltie, next to the Great Glen Way, about 38 minutes on foot from the green and 20 from the Loch Ness Inn. Booking.com listed it as room only in October 2026, with free parking. The adjoining Clunebeg House has a six-person suite and four-person family rooms, so it suits groups with a car. See the official site or Booking.com.

Loch Ness Backpackers Lodge (East Lewiston)

The budget option: five dormitories plus a double, a twin and two family rooms in Coiltie Farmhouse, about 17 minutes from the green and 31 from the castle car park. Its website showed no 2026 updates when checked, but the Booking.com listing was live and bookable in October 2026.

Camping in Drumnadrochit

Loch Ness Bay Camping at Borlum Farm is the only campsite in the village and the closest bed of any kind to Urquhart Castle, about 25 minutes on foot. It has 46 hardstanding pitches (40 with hook-up), a 4-acre tent field, a coin laundry and free WiFi, and takes vehicles up to 7.5 m on hardstanding. It runs April to October.

Pitch (per night) One person Two people
Electric hardstanding £32 £38
Non-electric hardstanding £25.50 £31.50
Tent £14 per person £14 per person

Checked October 2026 on the campsite’s price page, which does not state the year. Tent hook-up adds £8; extra adults £6, children (3 to 15) £4; dogs £1, two at most.

Do not plan on sleeping in a car park instead. None of the Highland Council’s overnight motorhome car parks is on Loch Ness; the nearest is Torvean in Inverness. The Drumnadrochit parking guide has the details.

Before you book

Book your Urquhart Castle ticket when you book your room. Historic Environment Scotland says summer tickets often sell out in advance, and parking at the castle is only guaranteed with a booked ticket (HES). See the Urquhart Castle parking guide for how that works.

On a wet afternoon The Loch Ness Experience is a short walk from any bed on the green; GetYourGuide sells a one-hour ticket, or you can buy direct from the operator. For food, the Drumnadrochit restaurants guide lists what is open in 2026. If you are coming by bus, the Inverness to Drumnadrochit page has the routes and the £2 fare cap.

Questions people ask

What are the best places to stay in Drumnadrochit?

It depends on how you travel. Bus users and anyone who wants to walk to dinner should stay on the village green, at Morlea B&B or the Loch Ness Drumnadrochit Hotel. Walkers and people who want to reach Urquhart Castle on foot should stay in Lewiston, at the Loch Ness Inn or its Bunk Inn. Campervans and tents go to Loch Ness Bay Camping.

Can you walk from Drumnadrochit to Urquhart Castle?

Yes. From the village green it is about 3.7 km, roughly 48 minutes on OpenStreetMap's walking route. From the Loch Ness Inn in Lewiston it is about 2.3 km, around 30 minutes, and from Loch Ness Bay Camping about 25 minutes. Much of the way runs beside the A82, a busy road with lorries, so it is not a pleasant walk in the dark.

Which Drumnadrochit hotels are open in winter?

The Loch Ness Inn is the only place in the village that states it is open year-round (VisitScotland trade listing, checked October 2026). The Loch Ness Lodge Hotel opens in the summer and autumn months. Loch Ness Bay Camping runs April to October. The other hotels and B&Bs do not publish season dates, so ask them before you book a winter stay.

Is there camping in Drumnadrochit?

Yes. Loch Ness Bay Camping at Borlum Farm, just south of Lewiston, has 46 hardstanding pitches and a 4-acre tent field, and takes vehicles up to 7.5 m on hardstanding. It runs April to October. Its price list in October 2026 showed £14 per person for tents and £38 a night for two people on an electric pitch. Book direct; it is not on Booking.com.

Do Drumnadrochit hotels have free parking?

Most do. The Loch Ness Inn, the Loch Ness Drumnadrochit Hotel, the Loch Ness Lodge Hotel, Morlea and Clunebeg Lodge all list free parking, and Glenkirk has private spaces for three cars. Drum Hotel guests can also leave their cars in the Loch Ness Centre car park after it closes to day visitors.
