About this site
This is a small independent guide to Drumnadrochit, the village on Loch Ness, and to the places a visitor is likely to combine with it: Urquhart Castle, the Loch Ness Monster story, the cruises, the glens to the west and the sights around Inverness. It is written and maintained by one person, independently.
It is not an official website. This site has no connection to Historic Environment Scotland, which runs Urquhart Castle, to the Loch Ness Experience or its operator, to the cruise operators on the loch, or to VisitScotland and the local tourism bodies. Nobody pays to appear here.
How we decide what goes on the site
Every page starts from sources we can name: Historic Environment Scotland’s castle pages and listed-building records, NatureScot, Forestry and Land Scotland, Highland Council, the operators’ own websites, and dated reports in the Inverness Courier and other papers. Where sources disagree, and on Loch Ness they often do (on dates, depths and distances), we use the most official source and say so.
The loch has a famous monster. We cover it, but legend is labelled as legend, hoaxes are called hoaxes, and we do not claim evidence that does not exist.
Ticket prices, opening hours and timetables carry the month we checked them. They change every season, so we link to the operator and ask you to confirm before you travel. Driving times come from a routing engine and run short on the A82 in summer, so we round them up.
Tours and how the site makes money
Tours on this site link to GetYourGuide. If you book through one of those links we earn a small commission, and the price you pay is the same as it would be otherwise. Some pages that link to hotels may also earn a commission through Stay22. We do not run the tours and we are not GetYourGuide. The full explanation is on our affiliate disclosure page.
Tell us when we are wrong
Prices go up, a bus timetable changes, a cafe closes for the winter. If you find something out of date or plainly wrong on this site, email info@drumnadrochit.com with the page and what you saw. Corrections are welcome; we would rather hear it from you than leave it standing.
